My Figs!
Watercolour on arches 140lbs / 300gsm paper.
Framed size: 52 x 41 cm (black lucite grey mat)
2019
Fig trees have such beautiful leaves. the first season we had the Fig Tree it blossomed and bore fruit for us. Each season since, it blossomed … and the birds get the fruit. I wrap the figs in mesh, I’ve thrown a net over the tree. The birds always win.
The painting is an example of negative painting, and using layers of colour to define the outline and define the subject. Only the figs, the focu, was positively painted. there is no glass on this painting to ensure you can view the painting without glare. Dorman’s paste wax was used tp preserve the surface and protect it.
